Thermoguard Thermocoat S is a solvent based intumescent coating for the protection of exterior steel and steel exposed during construction.
It is optimised to protect shaped steel and hollow bracing. This intumescent paint provides fire resistance to structural steel and cast iron for up to 90 minutes with a minimum number of coats. In the event of fire, the heat of a fire triggers a catalytic reaction, causing the expansion of an insulating char layer of up to 50 times the paint thickness. This layer keeps the steel below it’s critical temperature, thus maintaining the structural integrity of the building.
Apart from effective fire protection, the Thermocoat S offers a decorative overcoat which ensures the system will enhance the building’s architectural design features.
Thermoguard Thermocoat S can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray. To achieve the best finish in the shortest time, spray application is recommended. Steel and cast iron should be free from rust and millscale and primed with Thermoguard Steel Fire Paint Primer.
When applied with a brush or a roller, this intumescent paint for steel requires a minimum of 2 hours to dry and 24h to handle. It can be recoated after 6 hours and overcoated with Flame Retardant finish after 24 hours. When applied with spray, the dry time is 4 hours and handle time 24 hours, with a minimum of 12 hours for recoating and 48 hours for overcoating with a flame retardant finish.
It has been assesed by UKAS/EGOLF Fire Test Laboratory and meets the requirements of BS 476 Part 21 Certification for fire resistance.
Thermoguard Thermocoat S can be topcoated with Flame Retardant Gloss, Eggshell, Dualcoat SFR Matt, Dualcoat SFR Eggshell BS 4800 & RAL colours.
