The Sealmaster Intumescent Hinge Plugs comprise of a short length of metal tubing filled with mono ammonium phosphate intumescent material. The plugs are installed into the holes drilled through hinges, striker plates or pivot mechanisms and prevent the passage of flaming or hot gases by smothering the surrounding areas on activation.
The fire rated wall plugs prevent vulnerability to the intense heat transferred through the mass of metal that door hinged and latch plates represent, causing charring and ignition.
For lock/latch striker plate’s, two 7mm diameter plain holes are drilled in the plate, so as not to weaken it, or affect it’s normal operation. The fire rated wall plugs are fitted into the wood in the same manner as for hinges. Gaps around mortised areas should be filled with Sealmaster’s intumescent compound or standard plaster to reduce the spread of fire.
For pivot mechanisms intumescent sealing around pivot doors can be completed by incorporating Sealmaster Intumescent Plugs in the top strap assembly. The positioning of the screw plugs is determined by the shape of the strap and the layout of the screw fixing holes, as these can vary according to make.
