When a socket box is exposed to fire without an intumescent gasket, this can cause the fire to spread into the partition within 4-5 minutes. The envirograf intumescent gaskets offer the perfect solution for this in the form of intumescent pads for electrical sockets, suitable for either single or double electrical sockets located within brickwork, blockwork or plasterboard walls.
When the socket box is exposed to fire, this causes the intumescent socket gaskets to expand creating a seal and preventing the fire from spreading for up to 4 hours and is an ideal solution for when conduits pass through fire-rated ceilings and walls, as holes can be cut into the gasket to allow for cables to run through.
The intumescent gasket is made out of a mineral wool fibre and an exfoliating Graphite which provides the fire resistance. It also comes with self adhesive backing paper for application in the form of an organic binder. Once the backing paper has been peeled off the fixing strip, the gasket can be adhered to the inside of the box.
The gaskets are made to fit within socket boxes and comply with the revised IEE Regulations and Document B of the UK building regulations.
