With some 30,000 reported incidents of amputated, mutilated or damaged finger per year, a solution was required to prevent fingers being damaged in opening and closing doors. Having identified the need in the market, FingerSafe was invented by the company in 1990 and a patent granted in 1992.
The FingerSafe MK1B door hinge protector is designed for the hinge pin side of the door, giving full door protection and preventing pinch injuries from the gap and the protruding hinge. This is now a necessary requirement for nurseries to prevent toddlers and young children from injuries, caused by tiny fingers being caught and damaged in the small gap on the hinge pin side of the door. The MK1B provides a 4 hour fire tested door finger protector that offers draught exclusion and can also act as a smoke inhibitor.
The door hinge protector is fitted on exterior or interior doors using the bult-in fixing strips, with the screws supplied and can be installed as a sight guard in bathrooms and medical facilities. The finger protector is flexible, curved fitting and is positioned on the outward side of the door, whilst being fixed to the door frame and the outside edge of the door. When the door is closed the fitting forms a closed seal over the hinge. When the door is opened this fitting compresses and provides a stiffened protective covering to the hinge and the space between the door and the frame.
If a door opens onto a wall, FingerSafe MK1B will not be required as the gap on that side cannot be accessed. If the hinge side can be accessed then check that there is a gap wide enough to allow a small finger to be interested. If not, MK1B will not be needed.
